“First Solo” is a site-specific exhibition takes place at “Yet Thirtieth Experimental Art Space”. Artist Milky Choi from “Exhibition about Exhibiting Series” is curating the art pieces from the curator Donna Yuen. By interacting with the roles between artist and curator,
“First Solo” aims to explore the relationship between the structure
and power of the production units, exhibiting site and the value of artwork. First Solo is the first and ever exhibition; also the first, solo exhibition. It gives audience the first impression of Yet Thirtieth Experimental Art Space.
It was deeply in my childhood memory, there were an art agent sitting inside a gallery with purely white walls, a small desk with a cup of Starbucks and a MacBook. There were one artwork in front of each wall inside this white cube. In my knowledge, those works are very noble, valuable. Are they worth because they are on display at high commercial lots, or are they truely worth the price?
Perhaps the art agent was just an ordinary receptionist, who put an apple-shaped sticker on a silver laptop and drinking boiled water with a Starbucks paper cup.
However, first impressions always dictated our perception and value of certain people and works.
This exhibition, in fact, it's a space of fantasy and reflection. You may ask, "What did I see?" after visiting.
And the curatorial concept is likely to explore is the site endowing the value of artwork or the artwork enhance the value of the site. Yet, would audience remember that the value of each piece of artwork can actually be given by the audience.
